GPA is important only in college. Once you start working, it won’t matter if you passed with a D or got on the Dean’s list. However, GPA is what prevents you from being kicked out, maintains your scholarship eligibility, and may grant you access to certain programs (like the honors college). So it can be helpful to know what the GPA scale is. Below are the two scales used by most colleges. If you need a GPA calculator, we have one of those too.
Most schools use a 4.0 scale. This answers the questions of what is a 3.5? What is a 3.0? What is a 2.5? and many others. You may have to maintain a 2.0 or higher to remain in college, but depending on your department, it might have to be even higher than that.
